Peterborough United Under 21s get set for a double header at the Weston Homes Stadium, starting with the visit of Charlton Athletic on Tuesday afternoon (1.30pm).

Peterborough United Under 21s will play out their remaining home fixtures at the Weston Homes Stadium this week, entertaining Charlton Athletic on Tuesday afternoon.

Ryan Semple’s side will be looking to bounce back to winning ways having slipped to defeat at Sheffield United last time out, which came after a string of victories in the league.

The Addicks extended their unbeaten run meanwhile, beating Birmingham City 3-1 in the capital owing to strikes from Henry Rylah, Ibrahim Fullah and Harvey Kedwell.

Donay O’Brien-Brady was on target the last time the two sides met, as we shared the spoils with the Londoners last term.

TEAM NEWS

The group on Wednesday will be made up of our Under 21 cohort, while the Under 18s – who have featured regularly in recent weeks – will prepare to take on Sheffield United in the Professional Development League Cup final a day later.

THE OPPOSITION

Charlton Athletic sit fourth in the southern section, having collected 55 points from 29 matches. Chris Lock’s young Addicks have seen 16 victories, seven draws and six defeats over the course of the campaign, putting them in the higher reaches of the table. Charlton ride the wave of a four game unbeaten run in the league as they make the trip from the capital, including two victories across this stretch.

FROM THE MANAGER

Lead Professional Development Phase (Under 21s) Coach Ryan Semple said ahead of the game: “We’re looking forward to the game – the end is almost in sight in terms of the games programme but it’s really important that we approach the remaining games with real energy to see out the season as strongly as possible. Charlton always pose a good threat; they have a rich history with producing young talent like ourselves, so it will be a tough game but one that we hope with strong performances individually, and collectively, we can produce a result."

UPDATES

Updates of the game will be available on The Posh Academy X account.

VENUE

The fixture will take place at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Action between Posh U21s and Charlton Athletic U21s

The Posh Under 21s were beaten by Charlton Athletic at the Weston Homes Stadium in Professional Development action on Tuesday afternoon.

A Peterborough United Under 21 side, that was made up of trialists and players looking to impress, were beaten by a slick Charlton Athletic side in Professional Development League action on Tuesday afternoon at the Weston Homes Stadium.

The Addicks, who deployed a regular group of players for the fixture, eventually ran out 7-2 winners with two trialists on target for Posh.

Goalkeeper Bastian Smith made a host of good saves, including three within five minutes with his body at the end of the first half, as Posh took the chance to have a look at some players that are currently without clubs.

Ma'Kel Campbell tried to get things going from midfield, but it was tough going for the Posh youngsters in the spring sunshine.

Head of Recruitment, Analysis and PDP Coach Sam Gaughran said: "It was a tough day for the lads, putting trialists in with signed players is never easy, but it is a good opportunity for us at the club to have a look at players for next season and it is a busy schedule so we have to be careful about minutes."
